The Vikings are welcoming visitors!
In week 28, you can see the Vikings in the square with their tents and go about their daily lives.
Around 50 Vikings in splendid, colourful costumes will take over Fredsbjerg and showcase their crafts and daily activities to the public.
There’s always something for a Viking to do every day. We’re building clay ovens, cooking, repairing the smithy, tending the herb garden and sewing clothes and all sorts of items by the yard.
Here, visitors can gain a unique insight into the daily life of a travelling Viking and experience authentic artefacts and craftsmanship.
The Royal Hall is taken over by the travellers, who are delighted to showcase their Viking way of life.
Every day at 13.00 you can join the army of the viking king and become one of his hird warriors. Join in as adults and children battle in a shield wall, the Vikings’ battle formation. The fighting is with soft weapons. For children and adults of all ages.

Come and join us as we explore the world of archaeology and take part in our excavation site, where we’ll find artefacts, post holes and perhaps even a grave!
What is archaeology and what does an archaeological excavation look like? How do archaeologists dig, and what methods and tools do they use? How do we know how old something is, and why is that important? You can try your hand at all this and more, and learn more about the world of archaeology at the Archaeology Workshop.
3 activities:
1. Be an archaeologist for a day!
Archaeology Workshop, stand number 10, 11.00–14.00 and 14.30–16.30
Come and join us as we excavate a grave and archaeological artefacts, examine archaeological finds and have fun with archaeology.
You can try your hand at being an archaeologist and join us at our small excavation site. We’ll be excavating artefacts, finding post holes and trying to date artefacts using various methods.
2. Delve into the details of archaeology
Archaeology Workshop, workshop number 10, 14:30–16:30
What is a specimen and how do you excavate it?
Come and help excavate a fragile artefact that’s encased in plaster!
3. How old is it?
Archaeology Workshop, booth number 10, 11.00–14.00 and 14.30–16.30
Oops! Someone’s been rummaging through artefacts from all eras – can you help the archaeologist work out what it is and how old it is?
