Lejre Land of Legends – Knowledge through experiences
Lejre Land of Legends is a knowledge-pedagogical activity center
Knowledge-Pedagogical Activity Centers – VPACs – are state-supported experience centers that through educational, practical and challenging activities for all senses work to give children and adults knowledge and insight into nature, history and science.
VPACs bridge the gap between research, education and the young and old in Danish society.
Learning through active participation
The knowledge education activity centers offer a wide range of educational activities of international standard. The activities are based on the active participation of children and adults – and on the latest communication techniques. This makes education dynamic, forward-thinking and exciting!
New ways of learning – in close collaboration with the education sector
Some of the activities are aimed at teaching in primary and secondary schools. Teaching takes place in an informal learning environment – in close interaction with the education sector.

Thank you for coming!
Lejre Land of Legends is a non-profit organization that communicates, researches and teaches about our common past. Part of the operation is paid for by grants from the Ministry of Education and Lejre Municipality, but the main part is the income from your ticket, so it is you as a guest who ensures that Lejre Land of Legends can open its doors to extraordinary family experiences again next year.
Animal husbandry, production and ecology
Lejre Land of Legends is an approved visitor farm that operates animal husbandry as organic agricultural production.
Lejre Land of Legends sells its animals to restaurants and producers who process meat from our historic animal breeds into various products, such as sausages. Lejre Land of Legends meat is also included in the diet of our camp schools and families from the past, and day visitors can buy dishes in Lejre Land of Legends’ historic Cafe Hvidesøhus, which includes meat from our own production.

LEJRE’s activities are part of a cycle consisting of three core areas: Research, Dissemination & Education. In the cycle, research provides new knowledge, which is communicated in the teaching situation with school students and in the communication in the daily meeting with the guests
SAGNLANDET LEJRE’s research-based communication gives students and the public understanding and insight when we translate new knowledge from the world of research into tangible experiences and activities that children and adults can participate in themselves.
Ideally, the encounter between employee and guest is the starting point for a dialog, which in turn generates new knowledge and insights for both parties.
This intersection between research, teaching and outreach inspires new questions to be asked of research to provide new answers and new outreach experiences and activities.
Conducting commercial activities in all areas creates an economic basis for maintaining the circuit. Sales of prehistoric family and camp school stays, team building courses, meetings, conferences, business club memberships, historical souvenirs in the Shop, Pottery, Costume Workshop, Blacksmith Shop and historically inspired dishes in the Cafe contribute to this. All services are incorporated into Sagnlandet’s cultural-historical communication and framework.
SAGNLANDET LEJRE’s cycle is in motion ..
