SCANDINAVIA MEETS SCOTLAND: A Viking’s journey to Scotland told through music

In this workshop, Viking music expert Christine Kammerer opens the doors to the early encounters between Scotland and Scandinavia back in the late 8th century – through music!

When the first Vikings arrived in Scotland, how did the traditions, rituals and lifestyles of the Scandinavians weave together between the Picts/ Gaels/Celts? And how might this encounter have been expressed in music?

And furthermore, what does it mean for our understanding of what Nordic cultural identity and community is today?

This workshop takes the participant on a journey from Scandinavia to Scotland through storytelling, cultural history, music and mythology. The participant is invited to become part of the journey, with their own voice and body, to explore common tonalities, folk music and oldest folk songs, and feel how close the relationships are between these two Nordic regions.
