The Midsummer bonfire is lit

As tradition has it, the Midsummer bonfire dates all the way back to great-great-grandfather’s time. Surely the celebration of the longest days of the year has been marked even earlier? Who could possibly argue over the invention of the joyful evening festivity? Johanne Marie still hopes that love will bloom – this time at Midsummer. According to old superstition, one can dream of their future spouse on midsummer night.
Eyewitnesses from the past light the fire and lead the singing of the Midsummer Song. We end by singing The Lantern Man’s Song, Sagnlandet Lejre’s traditional midsummer hymn, as we walk around the fire and out of the Arena, on the way to the Dance Labyrinth and our Bronze Age ritual site (map no. 21).
