In Hvidesø, the carp of Lejre Land of Legends swim around peacefully. The carp are hand-tamed and a favourite with children of all ages. They are often a hit with the youngest members of the family. You can stroke their backs or just put your fingers in the water and the fish will come to investigate. It almost feels as if they’re kissing you – carp investigate with their mouths and have no teeth!
The carp in Lejre Land of Legends are a gift and come from the Rosenborg moat. Their ancestors in the Copenhagen moat were released back in the 15th-16th centuries during the time of Christian IV. The beautiful fish thrive in Hvidesø, which was once used as a carp breeding lake for Sagnlandet Lejre.
