Experience Denmark’s largest Viking hall – up close and personal
With a length of 61 metres, a width of 12 metres and more than 650 square metres under roof, Denmark’s largest Viking building has been an impressive sight for anyone approaching Lejre around 1300 years ago in the early days of the Viking Age. The same applies to the recreated version in Lejre Land of Legends.

Just 2 kilometres from where archaeologists from Roskilde Museum excavated the original Viking hall in 2009, professionals and experts have now recreated the legendary headquarters of the Kings of Lejre. An enormous mead hall that in its time, long before Harald Bluetooth made the Danes Christian, was both a centre of power and the symbol of a pagan heyday, worthy of the first kings of the time. A King’s Hall that today leaves us with a magnificent testimony to Nordic architecture and insanely well-crafted Viking craftsmanship, giving young and old alike a sense of history ringing in both ears.

Can’t get enough of Vikings?
Then head over to Lejre Museum where some of the finds from the original excavations are on display. Take a look at the Mannerup cat or give the little silver figurine known as Odin from Lejre a finger kiss. And stand on the site of the original Viking hall. Its walls are marked in the grass, and if you walk the scenic two kilometres from Lejre Land of Legends to Lejre Museum, you will automatically pass it.
