Registration for volunteers for Lejre Land of Legends Christmas weekends

Christmas is ALMOST upon us.

On the weekends of November 30, November 1, December 7 & 8 and December 14 & 15, 2024, there will be Christmas fun for young and old, and Lejre Land of Legends is looking forward to opening the gates for everyone.

In this connection, Sagnlandet needs volunteers who want to help make sure that guests have a wonderful Christmas experience.

There are various activities you can help with as a volunteer. For some of the activities, you will need to wear a costume, which will be handed out on the day. For other activities you wear your own warm clothes.

At Lejre Land of Legends Christmas Open House there are:

  • BEEWAX LIGHTS – the workshop in Lille Pot. Here you can learn about beeswax candles through 1000 years – but with a special focus on the 19th century difference between the rich’s beeswax candles and the poor’s counting candles. Guests can roll their own beeswax candle, made from natural beeswax.
  • SEWING WORKSHOP – Here, guests can sew little gnomes in wool fabric filled with wool from Lejre Land of Legends’ own sheep.
  • HISTORY TELLING AND COMMUNICATION – Kongehallen. Staff and volunteers are in Viking costumes and tell stories about Christmas traditions in Viking times and there will be a presentation about Kongehallen.
  • TINSOLDATVÆRKSTEDET – The chopping house at the back of Krikkebjerghuse. Here, all staff and volunteers are dressed in country clothes and provide information about pewter casting and help guests prepare molds, cast pewter soldiers, hearts or dancers and file the figure after casting.
  • SMUGKROEN – Hørhavehuset in Krikkebjerghuse. Here, guests can take a peek into the warm living room, where the farmers in costume run a smugkro and sell homemade gingerbread, warm beer with a pat of butter or hot and cold juice.
  • CARVING AND ROASTING – Bonfire Valley. Guests can carve various small items and roast a rune, with the help of staff and volunteers. There is bonfire fun throughout the bonfire valley by the fireplaces

There may be a few other little things on the program that are not yet completely finished.

There will be training for the guards on the day, so don’t worry if you’ve tried it before. Lejre Land of Legends provides lunch for all staff and volunteers. The café makes roast pork sandwiches, but if you have specific dietary requirements we recommend that you bring your own packed lunch.

Once the roster is finalized, it will be sent out to everyone who has signed up. Along with the roster, information material is attached, which you can read before you arrive if you want to. It is not a requirement.

If you have any doubts, you can contact Lasse Stockholm Nielsen at lsn@sagnlandet.dk

If you have the time and desire, you can sign up as a helper online here:

As a volunteer, your registration will be noted in the shop, so just say your name when you arrive at Lejre Land of Legends.
